Science Writing My goals as a science writer are essentially the same as with medical, history or any other writing: to cut through complexities and give the reader a clear understanding of how things work and why they're the way they are. It may seem simplistic but I like to view such an article as a story, with a beginning, middle and end – that is, laying a groundwork, developing the details and leading to a logical understanding. Most of these samples were written for the Association of University Technology Managers' annual Better World Reports. One is a feature article for my hometown newspaper, The Stow Independent. The last: a newspaper insert on biotechnology, written for the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. Science Article Samples (Adobe Acrobat Reader required; for free download click here.) AUTM is the Association of University Technology Managers, which each year publishes a book called A Better World Report, highlighting examples of research conducted in the academic world that is translated into practical, commercial applications in the real world. I've done a number of science and medicine pieces for them. |
